Applus+ Laboratories is pleased to announce that it has achieved the AMEX Enabled accreditation* to carry out card functional testing according to the new AMEX specifications, both in their Barcelona and Shanghai labs. Our lab in Shanghai is once again the first in China to obtain this Amex accreditation, as was the case with other Visa, Discover and Amex accreditations, thus reinforcing its position as a pioneer lab in China for payment services.
These new versions of the AMEX specifications incorporate a number of new test-plan features. These include:
- AEIPS 4.3 Specification Bulletin 16-001
- Updated data elements
- Tokenization-service support
- Clearer alias requirements
- Clearer dual-application requirements
- ExpressPay "no CVM control” requirements
- ExpressPay dual-interface card “application blocked” indicator, available for configuration at the personalisation stage or following issuance
The new versions of both specifications will temporarily run alongside the previous versions, whose expiry date is yet to be announced by AMEX. Even so, manufacturers and developers are advised to use the new versions for all new certification projects.
Applus+, an AMEX-accredited laboratory for security evaluations and functional tests
Applus+ is also accredited to evaluate the security of cards to American Express standards, which makes it one of the few laboratories in the world able to evaluate both the security and the functionality of AMEX cards.

About Amex Enabled
AMEX Enabled is an accreditation that signifies a product or service is approved for use on the American Express Global Network based on meeting American Express specifications, security and compliance requirements.
The AMEX Enabled Program is a convenient way for companies to get the information they need to develop a product or service that is compatible with the American Express Network. Once a company’s product/service is fully certified with American Express, it is given the AMEX Enabled badge.
AMEX Enabled products are listed on www.amexenabled.com, allowing issuers (financial institutions that provide cards to consumers) and acquirers (financial institutions that enable merchants to accept payments) to confidently select technology that is compatible with the American Express Network.
* AMEX Enabled accreditation identifies third-party products or services that meet American Express requirements. See
www.amexenabled.com for more details. Any listing, designation, approval or certification by American Express does not constitute a guarantee, endorsement, or warranty of a third-party’s product, service or performance. Products or services will require certification in order to be allowed for use by an issuer, acquirer or provider on the American Express Global Network.
