CE Marking of Aggregates

Aggregates are permanently added to building construction and infrastructures, therefore directly influencing the quality and safety of these structures. Marketing of aggregates in Europe is regulated by the Construction Products Regulation 305/2011. Manufacturers or their representatives in the European Union are solely responsible for compliance of their products with the terms of the Regulation, both for trade and use. When a manufacturer identifies its aggregate with the CE mark, this shows that the aggregate complies with the harmonized standards and therefore fulfills the essential requirements of the regulation. CE marking of aggregates is governed by Assessment of Conformity (AoC) system 2+, which requires the intervention of a notified body to perform a factory production control audit.

Applus+ Laboratories is a Notified Body* for CE marking of aggregates. We work with producers of aggregates throughout the entire process for CE marking of their products.

CE marking of aggregates is based on the 2+ assessment system and harmonized standards: 

• To perform Type Testing of the produced aggregates (These tests can be performed by the manufacturer's own resources or by an accredited laboratory)
• To implement Factory Production Control (FPC) at quarries or gravel pits
• To draw up a program of follow-up testing, specifying types, frequencies, etc.

Responsibilities of the notified body:

• To perform Factory Production Control initial inspection, assessment and acceptance.
• To performannual safety and assessment inspections

• Certificate of Conformity of the Factory Production Control (Notified Body)
• Declaration of Performance of the aggregate (Manufacturer)
• CE marking and labeling of the aggregate (Manufacturer)
